Meredith 2011 - Ten Highlights from the Line-Up
29 August 2011
With Meredith's 20th Anniversary set to launch in a few short months, we've picked through their diverse line-up to give you ten reasons to get yourself a ticket.
1. Grinderman
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis get fucked up in the studio with some Bad Seeds off-cuts, improvise for a few hours, create two startling and perverted albums...stun the world with their aggressive live show...play Meredith during a total lunar eclipse. No further explanation necessary.
2. Kurt Vile & The Violators
Loose, Springsteen-inspired lo-fi indie without the gimmicky fashionista overtones to fuck it all up. A genuine coup for Meredith, and sure to be a festival highlight.
3. Mudhoney
Seattle. Sub-Pop. 1991. Fuzz pedals. Blues, punk, pop fusion. Arguably responsible for Nirvana. Mudhoney are indirectly the reason you first wore a flannelette shirt.
4. Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears
Classic funk with dirty-Blues guitars made Black Joe Lewis one of Splendour's genuine highlights this year, their return to our shores for Meredith an absolute fucking blessing.
5. Future of the Left
Cult Welsh punk-rockers bring their noise to Meredith. Loud, fast and a whole heap of fun.
6. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizzard
Their first appearance at Meredith a sign of exciting things to come for the Melbourne based psych-blues outfit. Set to kick off the festival, it's by far the most exciting set for this band on the rise.
7. Explosions in the Sky
Set to fuck up the fucked up with their fucked up brand of symphonic post-rock...expect the widening of dilated pupils during their set.
8. Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Possibly crafter's of the greatest non-Finn hooks to come out of New Zealand in the last decade, these guys have found themselves a hype and following more than worthy of their placing amongst the Meredith elite.
9. Icehouse
Flowers or Icehouse? I could never figure that out...but they've reformed, and 'Great Southern Land' - as cheesy as it is - will no doubt garner the traditional Meredith sing-a-long.
10. OFF!
You won't understand a thing that Black Flag front-man Keith Morris is shouting at you...and that's exactly the point. Bringing punk and hardcore back to its roots, this'll be a fierce set of 40 songs crammed into their 45 minute set.
Ballot allocation tickets for 2011's Meredith Music Festival have now been exhausted, but further tickets will become available in selected stores on September 1st and online September 2nd. Check out Meredith's official ticketing page for more details.
