Sound Republic: Splendour 2011
Splendour tickets out now
4 May 2011
Tomorrow is D-Day for tens of thousands around Australia as they battle for the limited number of Splendour in the Grass tickets. Sound Republic has a few choice tips that might better your chances.
As always demand for tickets will vastly outweigh supply, and we'll see Twitter and Facebook flooded with complaints of computer glitches, as well as the usual ecstasy and heartache. With this in mind, Sound Republic is here to give you a few tips that have helped us over the years.
The early bird gets the worm
Get up early, have everything ready to go before 9am. Don't think you'll hop on leisurely at 9:15am and waltz your way to the front of the queue. Set the alarm, and be ready at your computer well in advance. The Moshtix server clock might be different to that on your computer so
Try alternative means
The main website isn't the only way to get tickets. You can try your luck on the no-doubt swamped phonelines by dialling 1300 GET TIX (438 849) at 9am. Last year the Moshtix mobile site wasn't inundated quite like the main website, so many folks got through by using their iPhone or Android phone to buy tickets.
Be patient!
Normally if it says not to refresh, they're not kidding. Your best bet is to just sit back with your fingers crossed and enjoy the ride once you're in the virtual queue.
Ask a friend or two (or three or four)
If you're planning on heading along with friends, it's obvious that you shouldn't rely on one person to try and secure your tickets. You should all be hitting up the Moshtix website to increase your chances. It also doesn't hurt if you can convince a friend or computer-savvy granny that's not going to waste their morning to give you the chance to.
To camp or not to camp
Splendour at its current home in Woodford, Qld has room for around 30,000 punters but only 20,000 campers. If camping tickets sell out you might like to try your luck with the less popular event-only tickets. Just be warned that it's a lengthy hike from most nearby accommodation (like motels or campgrounds) to the festival site.
Second chance draw
To thwart scalping tickets must match photo ID upon arrival. But because people buy tickets and their plans may change, Splendour and Moshtix offer a resale facility and so there's always the chance you can score a ticket this way. Last year it was in the days closest the festival that most tried to sell their tickets, so if you want to hold out until the very end this might be your way in.
Blame game
And finally when it's all sold out and you don't end up with a ticket, time to take to the streets of Twitter and Facebook and voice your outrage at Moshtix's server bunglings, those tools that just buy tickets to festivals because it's the cool thing to do, your best mate who screwed up the order process, your neighbour's dodgy wi-fi connection that keeps dropping out when you try to borrow it... or anyone else that gets in your way.
Good luck! Most of all we want goss... let us know if it was better/worse than previous years and of course spare no detail with all the glorious screwups and server malfunctions!
