The Woodford Files - Stickyfingers

Sydney's Annandale goes off at Stickyfingers' launch
Photo: Kian Bourke-Steer With four shows at Woodford Folk Festival 2010, and lined up to tear the Annandale apart again on Christmas Eve, we take a look at a band who only played their first gigs together in 2009: Stickyfingers, or Sti Fi to their friends.
Generally, it takes a while for a band to build the kind of momentum that scores them festival spots and packs out venues. However, Stickyfingers like to do things differently. With drummer Beaker and bass player Patty Fingers meeting kiwi busker Dylan Frost one night in early 2009, you'd expect it to take them a while to get their material and performances together enough for festivals. However, receiving some radio airplay and bringing their A-game to every live performance, the band quickly achieved a following which saw them sell out the Oxford Arts Factory before the year was out.
Bolstered by the support they were receiving, and riding the momentum as best they could, the boys got people talking with their set at Playground Weekender, going on to sell out Sydney's Annandale by Easter. Described as melodic, mega-hectic, psychedelic reggae, Stickyfingers can run a show and know how to promote themselves against the odds. Despite sell-out shows at the Annandale, Sti-Fi have been twice turned down for a spot at Newtown Festival. Deciding 2010 was a year for change, they created a make-shift stage with milk crates outside the festival, drew a crowd and did what they do best.
Currently working on getting their mini-album Extended Play out to new ears, Stickyfingers will be bringing in the festive season with a Christmas Eve show at the Annandale, which will no doubt go off once more. Then it's off to Woodford for four shows, before kicking off the New Year with more touring throughout January and February: and if 2010 was anything to go by, we'll be clinging to the coat-tails of this particular band to watch in the year to come.
