Broken Social Scene's Jason Collett tours with Zeus in support of Peats Ridge Festival
16 November 2010
Instrumental in the creation of Broken Social Scene's benchmark self-titled 2005 record and an accomplished solo artist in his own right, guitarist and singer-songwriter Jason Collett is touring solo across the country for this years Peats Ridge festival with special support by Zeus.
Canadian independent label Arts & Crafts is without a doubt one of that country's most important record labels. Launching artists like Broken Social Scene, Feist and Stars, they've not only been the home of the rapidly growing Toronto indie staples, but have consistently been the finger on the pulse of independent Canadian music. This year, the 2010 Peats Ridge Festival has announced an exciting trio of names from the label consisting of Dan Mangan, Zeus and former Broken Social Scene guitarist Jason Collett.
Known for his country-rock musings on album's past, Jason Collett put out a surprising fourth album earlier this year with the backing of label-mates Zeus to quirky consequence. Going by the name of Rat a Tat Tat, it saw him step away from his maudlin confessionals for a rollicking venture into upbeat genre-mashing pop. Meanwhile, Zeus put out their own debut album, Say Us, an impressive rock n roll venture checking The Beatles, Big Star and The Beach Boys from start to finish, all with sugary harmonies, honky-tonk pianos and sub-aquatic sonic effects.
Now, thanks to the Peats Ridge Festival, Jason Collett and Zeus are coming to Australia to play a special series of shows across the country. Catch them on the following dates and keep an ear to the ground for the murmurings surrounding these Canadian musical forces.
