Warpaint release debut album ahead of Laneway appearance
15 October 2010
Los Angeles post-punk four-piece Warpaint are set to release their debut album 'The Fool' on October 22nd via Rough Trade / Remote Control before hitting the country for 2011's Laneway Festival.
A host of big names seem to follow Warpaint around. Or perhaps more accurately, they were the ones doing the following, having supported acts such as Yeasayer, Akron/Family, Band of Horses and School of Seven Bells. Add to that the names tagged alongside producer Tom Biller (Liars, Sean Lennon) and mixes by Andrew Weatherall (New Order, Primal Scream, Bjork) and Adam Samuels (John Frusciante, Daniel Lanois) and you've got yourself a precession of artists that are starting to give you an impression of what this LA four-piece are all about.
Warpaint weave intricate guitar lines, hypnotic vocals and driving post-punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs that skirt the line between the soundscapes of psychedelia and intimacy. Recorded in a gym in Los Angeles, debut album The Fool follows the attention that Warpaint have garnered the world over. In a mere 24 hours after making their first single single available online, it was streamed or downloaded over 20,000 times and was hosted by influential music sites including Pitchfork, Gorilla Vs Bear and Fader.
With The Fool on shelves on October 22nd, Warpaint are gearing up for a spin around Australia for the first time, performing at the Laneway Festivals in February 2011. Catch them in a city near you on the following dates:
Fri 4 Feb - Laneway Festival, Brisbane
Sat 5 Feb - Laneway Festival, Melbourne
Sun 6 Feb - Laneway Festival, Sydney
Fri 11 Feb - Laneway Festival, Adelaide
Sat 12 Feb - Laneway Festival, Perth
