Matthew Barber tours Australia
13 October 2010
Glistening guitars, rich oaken tones and ennobling pedal steel guitar are the backdrop to Toronto-based troubadour Matthew Barber's delicate sun and dust tinged musical vision.
Handpicked to tour alongside Angie Hart and Dead Letter Chorus this September, Barber will be sharing choice cuts from his enviable back catalogue as well as his sterling new album True Believer, which hits shelves this September 24 via ABC Music / Universal Music.
True Believer is the fourth installment in Barber's already impressive musical canon. A singer-songwriter with a deft understanding of the intricate relationship between poetic lyricism, considered musicality and the human soul, Barber has amassed an adoring fan base as well as a slew of critical acclaim; culminating in a Juno-nomination for his 2008 long player Ghost Notes.
An uplifting chapter in Barber's musical expression, True Believer, is a textured and multi-facted listening experience handcrafted with the assistance of Canadian uber-producer Howie Beck (Jason Collett, Hayden). Toying with themes of love, hope and nostalgia with a disarming honesty, True Believer is Barber's most reflective album to date. Cuts opening track 'I Think You're Gonna Feel Love' express their heartwarming intent with mellow tones and sweeping chords; inviting the listener in to pause a while and enjoy the heat of the fire and the love in the room. With invite in hand, Barber's world opens up like a flower, with each song illustrating a new facets of this intoxicating bloom.
From the wide open spaces of Comeback Baby to the endless summer of While Away or the bittersweet reflection of Suddenly and all spots in between, True Believer is as much an emotional journey as it is a complete listening experience.
