More big names announced for Australian International Music Show

Jeff Martin, Michael Gudinski and Lloyd Speigel are among the most recent list of artists announced for the Australian International Music Show, to be held in Melbourne on October 2nd and 3rd.

Featuring workshops, clinics, performances and over 5000 square metres of gear on display, this event is a must for all musicians and those looking to pick up an instrument!

Organised by the AMA (The Australian Music Association) and part of the City of Melbourne’s Melbourne Music, the Autsrlain International Music Show will feature two days of performances and workshops, free advice from the experts and three halls of music gear, from recorders to grand pianos, from guitars to mixing desks - if you can't find it here, they probably don't make it!

The Australian International Music Show is for all music lovers and will cater for those who already sing and play an instrument for fun, or as part of their school program, to those who aspire to a career in music or have not picked up a musical instrument in years and would like to take it up again for fun.

An exciting inclusion in this two day event will be the opportunity to take a Masterclass from some of the best musicians in the world.   An amazing roster of artists that will attend over the two days to teach and encourage the musician in us are:

Robben Ford
The man is a blues legend. A four-time Grammy nominee, Robben Ford has played with artists as diverse as Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Witherspoon, Miles Davis, George Harrison, Phil Lesh, Bonnie Raitt, Claus Ogerman and Michael McDonald. This is a truly awesome workshop.

Bruce Kulick
Most know him from KISS (1984-1996) where his influence on the sound is seminal to the band’s massive success, but Bruce Kulick’s career is way broader. It’s his guitar you heard on tour with Meat Loaf and Bat out of Hell. Currently he’s with Grand Funk Railroad and a solo artist.

Jeff Martin
Achieved great success as a member of the seminal Canadian band The Tea Party, and now currently The Armada with Wayne P Sheehy. Jeff is also a producer. In addition to producing or co-producing all of The Tea Party’s albums, he has worked with artists such as Tenth Planet and Hundred Mile House and has recorded with David Usher, Conjure
One and Todd Kerns.

Redd Volkaert
Redd Volkaert’s resumé is seriously impressive. Who in the pantheon of country royalty hasn’t he played with? That includes fronting the superstar hillbilly band the Twangbangers with Bill Kirchen and Dallas Wayne, lead guitar duties for Merle Haggard, Lucky Tomblin, Heybale and Brad Paisley. He won a Grammy in 2009 for best country instrumental performance and was a Grammy nominee in 2003. His stupendous technique will teach your average rock god a thing or two.

Jonathan Moffett
He's toured with Madonna, Elton John, the Jacksons, Janet Jackson and Lionel Ritchie - in all 10 tours with legendary musicians. As well. he's played on Arsenio Hall, Jay Leno and many more TV shows. Musician, songwriter and producer, Jonathan Moffett is an astonishing drummer. This will be a fabulous workshop.

Grant Collins
Australia’s own, Grant Collins is a sensational drummer. Innovative and revolutionary, he’s also got a great sense of humour and is the consummate coach. He’s running a workshop for experienced drummers.

André Cato and friends
Melbourne DJ performer André Cato is running a series of ‘Get into DJ’ for novices and those who have only recently begun. He’s invited a number of special guests to assist.

Bob Spencer invites you to get on Guitar
Always wanted to pick up a guitar? This is the time to start! Bob Spencer (Skyhooks, The Angels) is running group coaching sessions. At the end of which you’ll be able to play one song or at least the signature riff. Guitars and all gear provided.

Mas Maslen invites you to Get on Drums
Release your inner Phil Collins and grab some drumsticks for easy coaching session for novices. If you’ve always hankered to take up drums, then this is your chance. Peter ‘Mas” Maslen is running group coaching session. At the end you’ll know your paradiddle from your flam. Drums and sticks provided.

Singblitz with Wendy Stapleton and Penny Dyer
Actor and musician Wendy Stapleton and singer and vocal coach Penny Dyer are running a fun, social singing session for those who love to sing. No auditions. Everyone welcome. Even if you sing like a frog!

David Jones
To see David Jones in action is to witness a wizard weaving spells, a master at work achieving the seemingly impossible. His arms move in fluid Tai-Chi-like motions, his face is relaxed and transmitting his joy to the audience, and if you closed your eyes, you would swear there were at least 2 drummers on stage. He’s played with just about every Australian jazz great including Don Burrows and James Morrison, as well as John Farnham, Jack Jones, Tommy Emmanuel along with Steve Wonder. No wonder he’s a legend.

Jaime Vendera
Vocal coach to the stars, author and sharer of secret singing business, Jaime Vendera is a force to be reckoned with! His speciality is voice strengthening which means how to last through a long set night after night, add power and range, and minimise strain and vocal loss. Part guru, part showman, his sessions are great fun and great value. His books have been read, praised and endorsed by members and singers of bands such as TNT, Nitro, Dream Theatre, Journey, Saliva, Three Doors Down, Winger, Evanescence, Dokken, Stryper, Chevelle, Shinedown, Sevendust, Puddle Of Mudd, Godhead, The Rasmus, Machina, Avalon, Theory of a Deadman, Kill Hannah, RA, Steroemud, The Dreaming, Future Leaders of the World and many more. He has also worked with and given tips to many of these artists.

Joe Creighton
Bass player, singer, songwriter and composer, Joe Creighton is a musician par excellence. He’s played on tour, in bands and in the studio with a pantheon of names including Joe Camilleri’s Black Sorrows, John Farnham, Kylie Minogue, Olivia Newton John, Sir George Martin, Boz Scaggs , Lee Kernaghan, even the legendary Ray Charles.

Roger McLachlan
Bass player in the original line up of the Little River Band, then onto Stars, Pyramid, international touring with Cliff Richard, recording with John Farnham, Tina Arena, Kate Ceberano and Lionel Ritchie, a trillion movie soundtracks including Croc Dundee and The Man from Snowy River … the list is massive. Seriously massive.

Jason Heerah and Dave Matthews
Jason and David and take visitors through an array of different drum and percussion styles from Latin through to funk and pop. They will give some insight into what is required doing Live, TV and session work. They will also be showcasing their versatility playing drum-kit and percussion.

Ben Last
Benjamin Last has been a music producer for 16 years and is also a private home studio teacher, configuration problem fixer and equipment consultant. Two sessions are on offer themed: demystifying the home recording and music creation process: do one, do both!

Mike Jackson
Learn to play the ukulele in 20 minutes. Guaranteed. That’s Mike Jackson’s promise.  Uke is one of the most popular instruments in Australia. Fun, easy to learn and you can take it anywhere!

Art Phillips
Two-time EMMY winning screen composer and APRA award winner, Art Phillips is one of Australia’s hardest working screen composers, with a roster of movies and TV programs to his name. Art’s career began in LA as session guitarist, composer and orchestrator for Barry Manilow, Minnie Rippertson, Demis Roussos, Smokey Robinson and many, many more. This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to sit at the feet of a master.

Jeremy Prentice
Ever felt the urge to get into the cool African jibe? Here’s your chance! This is a fun ’everyone join in’ sort of session where you’ll get to tune into the traditional West African groove on a djembe … simple beats, layering, polyrhythms, accentuation and counterpoint ….. master the basics and have a great time doing it! No experience necessary, but a bit of experience means you’ll get more out of it.

Tony Floyd
Tony Floyd has kept the beats for a diverse range of artists from Men at Work to Deborah Conway, and Things of stone and Wood, Vince Jones and the Black Sorrows. He combines a busy playing schedule with teaching at the VCA and Monash University.

Simon Patterson
One of the busiest working guitarists in Australia shares valuable knowledge built up over 25 years of gigging with touring bands, television show bands and in the pit for musical theatre.

Claude Carranza
Bass and rhythm clinic, accompanied by Joe Creighton and Tony Floyd.
