The Escalators are made up of some of the finest musicians in the Melbourne music scene; members of the group are Kynan Robinson, Marc Hannaford, Joe Talia, Pat Thiel, Mick Meagher, Lawrence Folvig and DJ Element.

The Escalators is led by Kynan Robinson who has carved out a significantly impressive career as a highly talented and daring musician and composer with multiple releases with his bands Des Peres and En Rusk. He is also a member of bands as diverse as ARIA award winning CW Stoneking and the Primitive Horn Orchestra to the Adam Simmons Toy Band and Melbourne SKA giants Skazz.

This project The Escalators inspired by David Lynch’ takes its inspiration from some of the artistic concepts of the master film maker to develop very unique approaches to music making. The music features on their first album Wrapped in Plastic launched a few months ago in April to great reviews.

The music is composed by Kynan Robinson who used the Lynchian concepts of normality, dual narrative, stasis and the relationships between reality and fantasy into the music making process. Robinson set out with a number of rules to apply to his composition, and then applied these rules into the production of the performance as well.

The Escalators have collaborated with visual artists Kiron Robinson and Michelle Robinson to create an atmospheric set for the performance that includes video, costume and lighting that together combine to give the audience a uniquely beautiful but somewhat unsettling experience.
