Introducing THE MACHINE feat Charles Smith, the lead single from the forthcoming Westernsynthetics album MAY DAY RADIO. May Day Radio is out September 2010 on Sub Continental Dub and distributed through Cargo Records (UK).

Fusing his unique blend of acid, dub, punk, techno & psychedelia with a revolutionary socialist outlook, Westernsynthetics (aka Rhyece O’Neill) uses a vast pallet of sounds, instrumentation & imagery in the construction of his music.

The Machine skips along with deep bass aided by the soulful and scratchy vocals of Charles Smith. Written in the suburb of Newtown, Sydney, Australia in early 2009, O'Neill had finished the music and was trying to find a vocalist. One night Smith (O'Neill's housemate) was heard on the balcony humming a melody to the bassline. O'Neill then wrote the lyrics based around Smith's melody. The result is modern protest song in Dubstep aided by "The Machine" speech given by Mario Savio during the free speech movement at Berkley University in 1965.

Musically “The Machine” straddles the realms of deep minimalist Dubstep, Techno and Psychedelia. It features a heavy pulsating bassline layered with O’Neill’s guitars and Smith’s vocal preccussion. Many layers of atmospherics with AM radio glitches round up the piece as it moves from a dancefloor Dubstep vibe to heavy beatless drone with distant vocal improvisations from O’Neill at the climax.

A regular performer at Sydney's Void/Index and Melbourne’s Bass High Dubstep nights, Westernsynthetics has supported heavyweights Distance, Scuba, Caspa, Skream, Benga, Bassnectar, Cotti, Harmonic 313, Gravious, Tes La Rok, Kito, Spherix, Emalkay, Deadbeat among others. He is also a performer and curator of the Dubshack at the Peats Ridge Festival.

Westernsynthetics’ 2008 release “Engine No. 999” 12” received excellent reviews from around the world and was nominated in the best instrumental composition category in the 2009 Australian Songwriters Association awards. Remix credits include The Herd, Armen Firman and Deepchild.

Westernsynthetics will be celebrating this release down at Index in Sydney on the 23rd of July where Westernsynthetics will be launching the single, via the famous Hijack Sound system. Comrades Deadbeat, Mark Pritchard, Sub Bass Snarl, Sofie Loizou, Prize and Swindle will also be performing.
