It isn’t long now until London’s up and coming talent Johnny Flynn heads our way to join Laura Marling’s Splendour sideshows, celebrating the Australian release of his new album “Been Listening”.

Since stumbling across Bob Dylan’s “The Freewheelin'” in a junk shop at the age of thirteen, Johnny has known what he wants to do with his life: to take off on a path of discovery and write poetic, lyrical songs that document the journey. “Been Listening” comes after years of Flynn paying his dues with impromptu sets in the back rooms of pubs. Now, backed by the critical acclaim of his debut “A Larum” and having toured with the likes of Mumford & Sons, Flynn is entering into a new level of song-writing maturity that recalls the accessibility and spiritual depth of an early 1970’s Cat Stevens. Lead single ‘Kentucky Pill’ kicks things off grandly, maintaining a playful, plucky musical spirit, underscored by dark lyrics ruminating about a childhood lost.

Alongside scoring a forthcoming movie and taking on the odd acting role, Johnny Flynn has funnelled everything from boyhood memories to feelings of loneliness into “Been Listening”, to make a collection of songs that ring out with wisdom beyond his years. Flynn sounds the very essence of the modern chronicler, capturing a particular life’s experience in songs with a universal resonance.

Dubbed "the next poster boy of the nu-folk scene" by The Times, this young lad is currently touring the UK festival circuit before heading down under. Limited tickets will be available for his only headline performance here in Australia.

His debut album “Been Listening” is out now on Transgressive/Shock.
