The Transatlantics release debut album
8 July 2010
One of the country’s hottest up and comers and purveyors of deep funk and soul, The Transatlantics, are proud to release their self-titled debut album with launch shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
The Transatlantics are one of Adelaide’s finest exports, forming a few years back and taking inspiration from modern soul artists such as Sharon Jones and The Daptone family as well as classic soul labels such as Stax, Hi and Motown. Their sound invokes the grainy warmth of southern American Soul and the rhythmic grunt of classic James Brown-era funk.
Led by the commanding vocal presence of Tara Lynch and comprising three horns, two guitars, bass and drums, this eight-piece band has gained a well deserved reputation for their high-energy live shows, working hard on stage to create the unrelenting, deep groove so central to the funk and soul tradition.
Already making their mark at home in Adelaide and around the country, The Transatlantics are launching their debut album through Freestyle Records. Having shared the stage with Funk and Soul royalty including Eddie Bo, Fred Wesley, Marva Whitney and Melbourne’s own The Bamboos, The Transatlantics have also played the likes of the Falls Festival, Big Day Out, Parklife and Playground Weekender.
Released through UK institution Freestyle Records, their debut album release marks the next chapter in the band’s journey and features a nice variety of musical offerings including the mowtown-esque ‘Couldn’t Be Him’ and ‘Turn You Loose as well as Marva Whitney’s ‘Thing’s Gotta Get Better’ and an intriguing version of The Presets’ ‘Talk Like That’.
Album launch dates:
Saturday 24 July – Rocket Bar, Adelaide
Saturday 31 July – East Brunswick Club, Melbourne
Saturday 21 August – The Basement, Sydney
