If you've been crossing off calendar squares, dutifully waiting for Children Collide to emerge from their underground lair and reveal the fruits of their musical labours, you can put away your black texta, the first single ‘Jellylegs’ is the first taste from their eagerly anticipated second album.

Don't be fooled by the song's low-key beginnings, as before long the band tear into it with abandon, all cut glass riffs and storming rhythm, reminiscent of the mastery that made The Long Now such an impressive debut but also shooting the band's sound in new sonic dimensions. The message is clear: Children Collide is back. Front man, Johnny Mackay describes the track as ‘a post-traumatic heartbreak song about my ex-girlfriend dying in a bizarre hunting accident with her Grandfather.’  Fact or fiction? We’ll leave it for you to decide.

Still following in the wake of their acclaimed debut album, Children Collide gathered up their musical wares (both physically and metaphorically) to embark on a recording expedition across the seas. A chance connection with big-name US based producer Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, Beck, The Vines) led to his unexpected helming of the album, with recording taking place across a fortnight spurt in LA throughout March. The as yet unnamed (and suitably mysterious) second record from Children Collide is now taking its final shape and will be ready to destroy stereos and car radios all over the country in August 2010.

The one album carrot we can dangle before you is the album artwork revolves around medieval tarot. There will be a card for each song corresponding with a major arcana card from the tarot. The album is a collection of sonic illustrations that could be taken to mean any number of different things and probably will be if you hand your money over to the scarf-wielding, cross-eyed gypsies Children Collide employ to endorse the album and help you find meaning in life.

This June, Children Collide will embark on a celebration tour of sorts; both a celebration of things accomplished and things to come. Visiting cities that have so vehemently embraced the powerful force of Children Collide over such an extended period of time, the band will now prepare audiences to look forward. Having taken their live show to Europe and North America & Japan already this year, the band are wielding as insatiable a live show as they ever have before.

Children Collide and fellow Crucial Music stable mates Gyroscope are performing free for Channel [V] live at Waves, Towradgi Beach Hotel, Wollongong.  The show kicks off at 4.00pm on the Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday (Monday 14 June).  For more information, head to vmusic.com.au.
