Sacred Heart Mission - The Heart of St Kilda

Tex Perkins, Archie Roach, Clare Bowditch and Mick Thomas are among those getting behind this years 'Heart of St Kilda' concert at the Palais theatre.  The concert, on June 29th,  is the major fundraiser for the Sacred Heart Mission.

Top acts from around the country are again proving the generous spirit that exists in the entertainment industry by supporting the annual Sacred Heart Mission concert. 

Every day of the year Sacred Heart Mission provides free breakfasts and three course hot nutritious lunches to people who are homeless or living in poverty. That’s 4,500 breakfasts and over 10,500 lunches each month.

This year’s concert will again features a string of Australia’s top artists and so far confirmed for the concert at the Palais Theatre, St Kilda on June 29 are:

Each weekday Sacred Heart Mission assists hundreds of people who are homeless or living in poverty to find shelter, food, care and support.
The annual Heart of St Kilda concert, which is supported by both performers and members of the entertainment industry, is one of the Mission’s major fundraisers to assist them in the vital work they undertake. 
Sacred Heart Mission is an institution in Melbourne and all money raised goes to support a range of services which assist people when they are in crisis and need support and assistance. Some of the services they offer are:

 · breakfast and lunch every day of the year to over 500 people who are disadvantaged. They never turn anyone away 

· a team of qualified social workers and counsellors’ play a key role in delivering many of the Mission’s services

· the Specialist Services Team provides comprehensive drug, alcohol and mental health treatment and support to people accessing three Mission sites: the Women's House, Homefront and Sacred Heart Central

· the Sacred Heart Mission Clinic provides complimentary services such as chiropractic, massage and physiotherapy for people living in unstable accommodation, who have a concession card and live in the City of Port Phillip

· Sacred Heart Mission provides private consultations with a GP and nurse, who visit twice a week

· Women’s House provides a safe, supportive place for women facing serious challenges to obtain help and assistance

· Homefront Crisis Accommodation provides short-term crisis accommodation and intensive case management for single women aged over 25 years

· the sports and recreation program offers a range of physical and non-physical activities for people, many of whom have no other opportunities for entertainment or social contact

Sacred Heart Mission has also undertaken a pilot program, the first in Australia of its kind; A Journey to Social Inclusion (J2SI) commenced in 2009 and will be piloted for three years with 40 participants. The project aims to demonstrate it is possible to break the cycle of homelessness for people who are chronically homeless and socially excluded.
