Oregon's eight-album alt-country maestros Richmond Fontaine are headed to Australia in May for a handful of acoustic shows throughout the Eastern capital cities.

Formed in 1994, Portland, Oregon’s RICHMOND FONTAINE are lauded by critics around the world for their fresh take on Americana/alt country.

With eight albums under their belt, the newly released “We Used To Think The Freeway Sounded Like A River” (out now through Nonzero) features 14 songs about heartache, love, and loss, and is considered to be their finest record to date.   Written while the band were on a year long hiatus, following the sudden death of guitar/vocalist Willy Vlautin’s mother, the new album showcases Vlautin’s storytelling at his very best.

In between writing songs, Willy Vlautin has also become an acclaimed author.  Vlautin’s novels ‘The Motel Life’ and ‘Northline’ have been released around the world while movie rights to both have been optioned.  Oscar-nominated screenwriter and award-winning director Courtney Hunt (Frozen River) is slated to adapt and direct ‘Northline’.  His third novel ‘Lean On Pete’ has picked up rave reviews in Europe, and was released in Australia this month through Allen and Unwin.

Richmond Fontaine last toured Australia in 2006.  This May sees Willy Vlautin (vocals/guitar) and Dan Eccles (guitar) return to perform select East Coast shows in acoustic mode.  The tour also coincides with Willy’s inclusion at the Sydney Writer’s Festival (May 21/22/23), plus select book store readings.  Check out the Sydney Writer’s Festival programme for more details: www.swf.org.au.
