The Black Ryder Sign International Record Deals and Tour Australia
27 March 2010
Almost six months on from the Australian release of the Black Ryder's phenomenal debut 'Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride,' the Sydney outfit have signed record deals in Japan and the USA alongside the announcement of an Australian tour supporting the Cult.
Since releasing their debut album ‘Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride’ in November last year, The Black Ryder have been busy gearing up for it’s international release, this month signing deals in Japan and the USA.
In Japan the album will be released through Vinyl Junkie recordings and in the USA through cool indie label ‘Mexican Summer’, home to artists such as Wooden Shjips, Dungen, and The Tallest Man On Earth, to name but a few. The Black Ryder will head to the US for shows later in the year in support of the release.
‘Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride’ has continued to receive rave reviews here at home as well as making Rolling Stone’s list of top albums of 2009 and scoring the band a nomination at the magazine’s inaugural awards for ‘Best New Artist’.
ROLLING STONE AUSTRALIA: “Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride is sprawling, slow-burning psyche rock that paints creeping moods with layer upon layer of drony, blissed-out guitars and ethereal vocals”, and The Brag stated, “The Black Ryder pull out a brain-scything melody and drag you off into the ether with all the power of a secular preacher on a deranged mission to find your inner soul.”
MUSIC AUSTRALIA GUIDE: “Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride is a permanent sunset leading in a dangerous and balmy night ahead; like an alternate soundtrack to David Lynch’s Wild at Heart.” 4/5 stars.
SIDESTREET SYDNEY: “Hauntingly melodic, The Black Ryder have achieved the kind of sound that takes artists years to perfect.”
SOULSHINE - “With an album like this, secrets don’t get kept for long enough for you to second guess yourself. The Black Ryder have arrived with a debut that will undoubtedly be the benchmark for the duration of their existence.” 4.5 / 5 stars
It’s reviews like these and The Black Ryder’s impressive live show that has snagged them the coveted support slot for The Cult ‘Love live’ National tour of Australia this May.
