New Broken Social Scene Album Announced

Having gone five years without releasing an album under the Broken Social moniker, the orchestral Toronto 12-and-more-piece are back with a whole band record by the name of 'Forgiveness Rock Record.'

It's not like the members of Broken Social Scene have been quiet over the past five years. Opting to release pseudo-solo records under the Broken Social Scene Presents... header for core members Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, it's hard to say with any gravitas that they haven't touched an album for that time. Add to that Andrew Whiteman's Apostle of Hustle releases, Feist's solo career and Charles Spearin's Do Make Say Think and Happiness Project albums and there have been enough doses of Broken Social Scene in your record store to make any eagerness unwarranted.

However, when a new single gets released by the band, it tends to be an entirely different feeling. Available as a free download from their official website, the first inkling from the new album 'World Sick' is a great preview of what is to come. 'World Sick' toys with unique electronic sounds and layers upon layers of building orchestral instrumentation amongst vocals that are almost lost inside the chaos, a staple of their past outings. Andrew Whiteman's Apostle of Hustle-esque guitar draws you into a Polyphonic Spree tinged vocal effort from Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning; it's typical Broken Social Scene with a new spin, something that paints an eagerness on a whole load of sets of ears in their home nation of Canada and their minor following here in Australia.

While you can download the single for free right now from iTunes and brokensocialscene.ca, the new album is to be released on May 4th on Arts & Crafts.
