Byron Bay will see the coming together of two funk and soul acts from opposite sides of the globe – Amp Fiddler and Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro, playing at the Great Northern on Saturday 2 January 2010.

Amp Fiddler, back with his full band, is one of the hottest soul acts on the scene today, having played with everyone from Prince and George Clinton to Primal Scream and underground Detroit producer Moodyman. To date he’s released three full albums – the latest being ‘Afro Strut’ in 2006 and ‘Inspiration Information’ with legends Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare in 2008.

Recording in Kingston, Jamaica ‘Inspiration Information’ was recorded over just three days with overdubs done a week later in Detroit. The result, is a very fine album reminiscent of 70s and 80s Sly & Robbie with a fresh approach. Amp Fiddler made his last trip to Australia at the beginning of 2008 and has since been touring the globe with his band including a tour of East Africa and playing at festivals all over the world.

Taking to the stage before Amp Fiddler will be the Japanese funk/jazz sensation Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro. Hailing from an unknown prefecture on the outskirts of Tokyo, the six-piece phenomenon are taking Japanese audiences by storm, packing out venues around the country.

Playing at the prestigious Fuji Rock Festival 2008 and countless festivals around the country, they have built a reputation as one of the finest Japanese funk units kicking it today. Signed to the prestigious P-Vine label in Japan, these young groove merchants have their sights now set on Australian audiences, with their debut album being released soon through Instrumental Recordings/MGM.
Amp Fiddler and Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro are both touring the country separately in January, so don’t miss the opportunity to see them take to the stage together in Byron Bay with special guest DJ Flow Poetry.
