Sunpilots embark on national tour in October & November

The Sunpilots will take a break from the studio and hit the road in October for their ‘Animals In My Mind’ national tour. While the tour marks the band’s third trip around the country, it will be the first time fans will get a taste of where The Sunpilots are headed musically with album number 2. “I think we’ve finally started to figure out “our sound” – and it’s pretty different to ’Living Receiver’,” says frontman Raj Siva-Rajah. “I’ve been listening to a lot of 60’s and 70’s rock opera – The Who’s ‘Tommy’ and ‘The Wall’, that kind of stuff. So that probably gives you a bit of an idea.”

The Sunpilots’ debut album ‘Living Receiver’ was released late last year to glowing reviews, earning the band 2 ‘Indie Album of the Week’ awards and an International Songwriting Competition nomination. Several tracks were picked up by college radio in North America, resulting in a Single of the Year at the LA Independent Music Awards and Best International Artist at the Canadian Indie Music Awards. To kick off the tour, The Sunpilots have released a 4-track ‘Animals In My Mind’ EP as a free download from their website (www.thesunpilots.com) and MySpace page (www.myspace.com/thesunpilots). “We chose ‘Animals In My Mind’ as the new single because it’s the closest thing on ‘Living Receiver’ to the new stuff,” says Bob Spencer, lead guitarist. “It’s going to be awesome to take a few of the new tracks on the road with us. We’ve been writing whatever comes out – no filters. It’ll be interesting to see what the fans think.”

The ‘Animals In My Mind’ tour may also be the band’s last Aussie tour for some time, with The Sunpilots heading to Asia and then on to Europe for some extended international touring. “We’ve been lucky enough to have been offered a run of festival dates in Taiwan and China early next year, “ says Raj, “so we’ll head there first, then on to Germany.” With departure dates still in limbo, the band made the decision to tour again in 2009 in the event they are unable to in 2010.

The Sunpilots’ efforts in establishing themselves as an independent touring act and running their own label have earned them the support of the Australian Government. The band has been awarded the ‘Contemporary Music Touring Program’ grant, which is designed to give all Australians, wherever they live, better access to some of the country’s best live contemporary music. The Australian Government has said they are proud to be associated with The Sunpilots.

With a comprehensive run of dates in October and November, The Sunpilots will be taking their unique guitar-driven rock across the country. Don’t miss your chance to see what the fuss is all about.
