Next up on the Woodford Files comes drumming troupe TaikOz, purveyors of ancient Japanese drumming techniques in a style made just for 2008's Woodford Folk Festival.

Since 1997, TaikOz has been the Australian interpretation of the ancient Japanese taiko drumming style to the awe and pleasure of audiences country wide. With a stage full of drums, muscle-clad drummers and a single shakuhachi bamboo flute, TaikOz deliver a high energy performance of aural and visual drumming thunder. With choreographed movements as graceful as they are powerful and a sound that sends shockwaves through the audience, it’s a sound and experience unlike any other offered at the Woodford Folk Festival.

A highlight of last year’s Woodford, they return this year to meld their distinct blend of East meets West musical stylings six times throughout the festival. Their first show starts on the opening morning of the festival at the folklorica stage, around 10:30am as a part of the Invocation Rituals feature. They play again at 9pm the following day on the concert stage and again at 10:30pm at the Grande on the 29th. Their next show is on the following day, again at the Grande, this time at 5:15pm before closing out the New Year’s Eve sunset at 5:30pm on the hilltop. Their last performance occurs at 6pm on the 1st of January at the concert stage.

In addition to these performances, TaikOz are running the Taiko Dance and Movement Workshop at 1pm at the chameleon stage on December 31st.
