Overnight camping returns to Woodford Village site, weather forecast looks promising

With two weeks until thousands of campers pile into the grounds of Woodford Folk Festival in anticipation of one of Australia's largest festivals, organisers have announced news that's sure to make any attendee excited.

Several years of growth in attendance at the festival had organisers, led by festival director Bill Hauritz, having to plan how to meet the expectations of attendees and ensure they offer the best possible festival experience.

With the current season camping area overflowing in recent years as more and more set up for an entire week at the festival about an hour north-east of Brisbane, organisers initially made the decision to convert their overnight camping area into a second season camping area.

The first call was to relocate overnight camping all the way back in the township of Woodford and bus them in with a complimentary 24/7 service. Not in itself a bad thing but any seasoned Woodfordite will tell you that much of the experience is spending time completely isolated in the bubble of the Woodford Village.

Things took a positive turn recently with the newly amalgamated Moreton Bay Regional Council approving a new overflow carpark which has allowed them to once again locate overnighters on-site.

Organisers have also said that after the drainage issues that plagued the site last festival during the week of relentless rain they have spent a lot on improving the already impressive infrastructure to better handle these situations. But with early weather forecasts out, that might just be a precaution.

The second piece of positive news comes from the meteorologists, with early forecasts for the region suggesting a dry and relatively mild Woodford Folk Festival with temperatures in the low 30s for the week. The site should also be plenty green with consistent rain expected up until the festival starts.

With two years of wet Woodfords and a scorcher before that with temperatures in the 40s, it looks like the weather gods will be sending us some nice weather for a change.
