Noone can deny that one of the joys of the big festivals is the rich abundance of overseas acts they bring to our shores. Take for example Ruthie Foster.

Bringing her unique blend of soul, folk, blues and gospel, Ruthie hails from Austin, Texas. After signing earlier this year with Blind Ambition Management (home of the Blind Boys of Alabama and Steve Poltz), Ruthie has announced an exciting East Coast tour sure to win her many new fans.

Described by festival favourite Eric Bibb as "simply one of the greatest singers of our time," and having played with the legendary Taj Mahal, Ruthie will be appearing at several venues, as well as Port Fairy Folk Festival and East Coast Blues & Roots.

Read the full press release below, or check her out at her website: http://www.ruthiefoster.com/

PRESS RELEASE:

Lovers of incredible and authentic soul music take note: Ruthie Foster, gutsy singer and songwriter powerhouse from Austin, Texas is touring Australia for the first time in March 2008 …and you can take it as gospel, the house is gonna burn down.

Ruthie is heading our way on the back of her astounding new and fifth album – accurately, rather than boastfully, entitled – The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster.

If  you haven't yet been introduced to the music of this actually humble and prodigiously gifted singer and songwriter from Texas, you're in for a major epiphany. And if you've been following Foster's career ever since her self-released, 1997 debut, Full Circle, or even since her 2002 breakthrough, Runaway Soul, you're in for an even bigger surprise, because you really haven't ever heard Foster until you hear her now. Simply put, mama's gotta brand new bag. Foster had been steadily winning thousands of fans across North America and Europe for close to a decade, blending contemporary folk with old-school gospel and blues with dazzling efficiency, showcasing a powerhouse voice that drew more favorable comparisons to the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin than the poor girl knew what to do with!

Then she met her new producer, noted Austin-based "swamp music" guitarist Malcolm "Papa Mali" Welbourne, and they decided to make an honest to goodness classic soul album. The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster has been holding strong in the top 15 albums on Billboard’s Blues chart for several months and recently broke into the top 25 on Amazon’s overall music sales chart and is still rising. Amazon’s editorial review described the album as "rippling with beauty," "stunningly emotional" and a "remarkable flashback" to old-school soul.

"Whether singing blues or gospel, Ruthie Foster is a singer with a powerful, soul-stirring delivery that is easy to give yourself over to."
- Mike Regenstreif, Montreal Gazzette

So get on board with this genuine soul sensation – the real deal – and be a part of one of Ruthie’s Australian concerts. It’s bound to be a celebratory, thunderous and potentially life-altering event!
