Originating from a small gathering in a Nannup residents’ home, the Nannup Music Club formed in 1988 has grown into a full scale annual festival that is now in its 19th year.

Located in the heart of South West Western Australia, the festival is just three hours from Perth. It is a little off the beaten track, the festival grounds surrounded by the famous South West Jarrah forest. This creates the most relaxed of festival vibes, providing a wide range of experiences for those young and old.

Over the past few years the Nannup Music Festival has hosted a great number of local heroes over the Labour Day long weekend. 2005 saw the attendance of Fremantle band, the Zydecats, and ARIA award winner Kavisha Mazzella. Locals, Doris, returned in 2006 with the addition of Khin Myint to the better performers. 2007 was no exception to the festival’s growing popularity, bringing together local talents Double Entendre, Freya Hanly, (the) Dead Kelly’s and Dave Johnson.

The 2008 festival promises no less with headliners Old Man River, alongside comedian Andrew Horabin (2000 ASA Songwriter of the Year), Peter Brandy and the poetic Ted Egan. The Nannup Music Festival is not only an audio experience however, providing for all age groups. The Festival is also characterised by a number of stalls that provide a tastebud and amusement experience. There is a wide range of tongue pleasers, with food from all over the world. For the kids there is the essential face paint and funky culinary delights.

2007 saw the addition of a specific youth orientated program including hip hop group Cowtown, local rootsman Andrew Winton and the Nannup Sk8 Competition. All these additions to the festival in recent years seeing it become one of the best music festivals in the South West and the biggest event in the Nannup township. The Nannup Music Festival is a flashpoint on the West Australian annual calendar, and is only going to grow in popularity. The relaxed vibe allows for a great festival experience for all, constantly growing musically and culturally.

Between now and January more acts and attractions will be announced for the 2008 festival, but until then we must just be patient.
