Some of Australia’s best musicians have banded together to be part of the first ever Good Seed Festival.  Featuring performances by LABJACD, Rob Sawyer Band, Loren and the Grow Your Owns, Dirty Lucy, Jess McAvoy, Dan Sultan, Liz Stringer, Sam Lohs, Nathan Gaunt, Tobias Cummings, Emma Heeney, Freya Hanly, The Little Stevies, Austin, Samuel Marcus, and The Periscopes, the Good Seed Festival is all about community, both local and global.

The festival aims to encourage awareness of the importance and power of community, here and throughout the world and to nurture the principle that the action and knowledge of few can affect the lives of many.

The festival is the product of the dream of a young Melbournian to raise awareness of issues facing communities in developing countries, namely Cambodia.  During a backpacking journey in South-East Asia, Leigh Mathews made an unplanned stop in Cambodia and ended up staying seven months.  Leigh spent her time teaching English, and volunteering with local organizations.  Her volunteer work with the street kids led to the founding of her own non-government organization, Future Cambodia Fund.  When asked why Cambodia? Leigh replied “it grabbed me.  I couldn’t just go home and pretend those children didn’t exist”.  Three years later, much hard work, and many trips back to Cambodia, Future Cambodia Fund is ready to plant the seed of tangible and sustainable possibility.

With the support of friends, folks, musicians and sponsors who believe in Leigh’s cause, all monies raised at The Good Seed Festival will go towards Future Cambodia Fund’s projects; among them, an organic agriculture vocational training program for disabled children.

The Good Seed Festival is an all-ages event.  There will also an auction with donations from Silverchair, Bernard Fanning, Missy Higgins, The Beautiful Girls and more, yummy food by Lentil As Anything, roving performers, a market, and a licensed area.

Tickets for the Good Seed Festival are on sale now from the Corner Hotel Box Office, and Polyester Records. For more information, please visit www.myspace.com/goodseedfestival or www.goodseedfestival.net or www.futurecambodiafund.org
